In response to Sir Ken Robinson's most downloaded TED talk ever, The TEDxLondon team decided to cast a wide web and bring alternative education hackers together from across the globe. TEDxLondon has always had a high focus on pushing conversations to action and encouraging outcomes outside of information for a public good. In order to create a TEDx experience that allowed people to engage with each other, we put a pledge system in place that has all participants and speakers pledging to learn, try, or donate their time to something new. In order to communicate this, we had a large teeter-totter and dedicated staff to collecting, reading, and tweeting out pledges. Although it was early days for Twitter, we still managed to crash the system with our traffic and temporarily had a Fail Whale. Held at London's famous Round House, the thousand-person sold out event was a tremendous success.
In support of both Re:Imagine Group and the Burning Man Project, we participated in Digital Life Design. This colorful discussion covered everything from the maker moment disrupting innovation of large industries to the key takeaways of Burning Man culture into the real world.
We represented The Burning Man Project at CMX in San Francisco in 2015. This specialised gathering of Communication industry professionals had a wide range of perspectives on how to engage community. It was an interesting new opportunity for Burning Man, who does not normally present at niche tech industry conferences. Play came up with a unique storyline of Burning Man's history and provided insight into how the community self governed over time.
We helped facilitate a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop at Burning Man Project's second ever European Leadership Conference. The specialized workshop helps open up possibilities of how to start projects and work with gatekeepers such as local government, landlords, and educational facilities, and provided insight on how to hack a variety of civic landscapes via crowd-sourced activities. The workshop was such a success. Play repeated this activity again for the Burning Man Global Leadership Conference in San Francisco in April 2015.
We were asked to share knowledge about how to encourage Burning-Man-like innovation in cities; how to help support more genuine types of tourism and how to develop startup ecosystems in cities like Tel Aviv. This new conference was in partnership with DLD and covered many emerging trends in Tourism across all of Israel and beyond.

In Hamburg, this year, Jenn spoke about city platforms and her view on how global collaborations are occurring around the world for Burning Man's Network.
Playfulness is a refined mechanism of evolution that acts as an engine of engagement and adaptability. The biology of fun is the biology of deep engagement and creative invention. Here we bring together an elite panel that will show how the future of robust social networks, as well as innovation (& social joy), relies on tapping into our evolutionary resource: playfulness. Jenn was speaker representing Play Atlelier.
